Tamburlaine was established in 1966. In 1985 the Hunter winery was purchased by a small group of friends and relatives led by Managing Director, Head of Grape and Wine Production, Mark Davidson. Mark has built his long-term winemaking philosophy around Contemporary Organic practices in the vineyard and the winery. Through years of research and development, we have become one of Australia’s largest producers of organic wines with vineyards in the Hunter Valley and Orange region.
Named after Christopher Marlowe’s famous play and character ‘Tamburlaine the Great’, we work to lead the way with our Contemporary Organics vision, successfully producing award-winning organic, vegan-friendly, low sulphur and no added sulphur wines.

Welcome to Rabbit Ranch where the rabbits run wild, and so does the pinot! Here is where Warren McGregor and his team of bunnies spend the long summer’s days looking after the vines, checking on those grapes until they are juicy and ripe. And when they are ready it is “Go Team”!
Powered by Pinot Noir, these guys don’t sleep for 6 weeks, working like bunnies! Pressin ‘n’ plungin those grapes in the vats, fermentin ‘n’ blendin that delicious grape juice, until they have drunk a few glasses of what they think… will be a spectacular vintage!

Over the years, Justin and Julie Ardill purchased and planted more vineyards and sourced premium fruit from local growers in the Watervale and Leasingham areas.
Our estate-grown Leasingham and Watervale vineyards are characterised by rich red loam over deep limestone. Expert management by our viticulturalist and good mate Rob Smyth ensures the vineyards are low yielding but produce intensely flavoured berries resulting in regionally distinct, fruit-driven wines.
Our winemaking philosophy is to produce premium wines from our Clare Valley vineyards with limited winemaking intervention, allowing this quality fruit to truly shine.
